The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category Might Solve This

Each time a significant awards ceremony draws close, one notices a clamor to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these classifications successfully include many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games published annually that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game wasn’t nominated in any category during that awards season
  • A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Limited numbers of puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. One could readily select a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
